CORONATION EATS

Those of you inclined to pour into the streets to hail the coronation of King Charles may have focused hitherto on the emotion of the moment rather than the logistics. But the fact remains that all that celebration of monarchical continuity might leave you a mite peckish.

Mercifully, gourmet food delivery service Forman & Field has, as the British say, got this.

The company’s street-party hamper, curated specifically for this august occasion, offers a toothsome array of the King’s favorites. These include smoked salmon royal fillet infused with martini (Charles’ preferred “pre-dinner tipple"); wild mushroom risotto scotch eggs (coated in panko); sausage rolls filled with Welsh lamb and topped with a crown logo; salmon and spinach flamiches made with puff pastry (which will make you forget any other flamiche you’ve ever had); a savory wheel of Baron Bigod cheese (beloved of the late Queen Elizabeth) with Godminster cheese biscuits; and a pot of coronation chicken, first concocted in 1953 for Elizabeth’s crowning.

What’s for pudding, you ask? Why, only the “King of Puddings,” namely lemon-baked egg custard with raspberry compote and whisky, ennobled by a regal meringue crown. Top it all off with a tin of Earl Grey Palace Tea and Bob’s your uncle.

The whole sumptuous feast will set you back a mere £99.95, which leaves plenty of room in the proverbial household budget for bunting, confetti, vuvuzelas, Union Jack-emblazoned kazoos and other accoutrements of celebration.

Of course, if you’re the product of a nation that fought and won a revolution predicated on the idea that one need never bend a knee to any sovereign, you are welcome to crack a Budweiser, rip into some Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and watch a John Wick movie marathon.

Forman & Field is an arm of H. Forman & Son, the U.K.'s oldest salmon producer. In this majestic tableau, the concern's Lance Forman talks fish with the King.
